Description

The ascent begins at the Arlaud refuge. Inside the village, Montagne Seu, you walk a few tens of metres in the direction of the opposite end and take the path, marked GTA, that climbs up between two things.
In a short time, you leave the houses and enter an area of pastureland, climbing up with rapid turns. You pass by a park observation tower and, after about 30' of walking, arrive in a flat area.
At this point, the route turns right, heading SE, and continues along the mountainside.
You enter the forest and a series of steep climbs quickly gain altitude. The GTA markers on the trees help you to follow the path, even in heavy snowfall.
After about 1 hour, at an altitude of 2,010 m, you will come to a signpost indicating the direction of the Assietta and the Strada dei Cannoni.
Continuing along the mountainside, you will pass by the Le Selle alpine pasture and then, beginning to cut the slope, you will reach the Strada dei Cannoni, at an altitude of 2.500 m. approx., after 2h from the start.
On the left, you can see the high ground on which stands the memorial obelisk, the destination of the excursion.
From this point you follow the wide track, at times almost free of snow, at times hidden and confused, continuing on the plateau, with slight ups and downs.
After about 30' you will pass by the cantoniera house, which remains on your right.
At the base of the monument, there is a small climb to reach its base, after about 3h from the start.
The return journey is by the same route as the ascent.
