Introduction

Short itinerary on the heights above Gimillan. An absolutely risk-free route, which can also be hiked on full moon nights and is very suitable for those who want to start snowshoeing in winter. Stunning views!

Description

From the car park, walk up the snow-covered track to the votive chapel dedicated to "Marie Immaculée"; continue on the track to the right, skirting the Gimillan stream, until reaching Pian di Teppe (1923m, 0h15'). Go around the building and proceed to the left following the beaten track, which is practically level. Go past the alpine pasture of Serve and continue in a north-westerly direction, crossing some larch thickets until you reach a clearing: here, turn back following the track (almost always beaten) towards the main town of Cogne. The route follows the undulating pastures between sparse larches and splendid views of the peaks crowning Cogne. Passing below the Serve mountain pasture, we begin the gentle descent towards Gimillan; we cross the snow-covered pastures, aiming for the village. You reach Gimillan at the starting point of the path 23 to Epinel: from the signposts turn left and climb briefly up a small road to the car park, the starting point of the itinerary.
