Introduction

Easy excursion that can be made, given the altitude of departure and arrival, even after recent snowfall, presenting no objective dangers from above. There is no shortage of views during the ascent, but it is at the baite di Pesse that you can enjoy a beautiful panorama of the peaks in front and the lower valley, which on a clear day extends well beyond Aosta.

Description

From the car park, head towards a no-entry road that starts just above and begin to climb until you reach a fork signposted (908m). We ascend to the right, sensing the path winding through the woods, reach another marker (978m) at another fork and turn left, still in the woods, to reach the road again (1069m) where there is another marker. The route now continues along the road and, after a traverse halfway up the hillside, goes straight ahead to a first fork with a road coming in from the right and one immediately afterwards at a hairpin bend for Freynoz marked by a wooden sign (1125m). Climbing gently up the road, you pass a marker post and, after a few hairpin bends, the other markers of the previously abandoned paths. Continue into the beautiful Bois Mont Blanc with a long traverse, leaving a small road that branches off to the left and, a little further on, a second small road that leads to Verrines (1428m); a few more metres and you reach the panoramic huts of Pesse.
For the descent, follow the same itinerary until just beyond the junction for Freynoz where, on the left, a road descends (1105m) that you follow in its entirety, passing with a few hairpin bends under some rocks until returning to the village of Runaz.
