Access

From Milan to Sondrio and Tirano. Take a left to Val Poschiavo and the Bernina Pass. Shortly after the Swiss border at Campascio, take the narrow road to the left that leads to Cavaioni on the right-hand side of the valley. Depending on conditions, you can continue by car to the last hairpin bend of the small road leading to the upper hamlets (parking is limited to 3-4 cars, however).

Introduction

Easy ski tour with no objective dangers, just over the Swiss border in the Poschiavo valley. Depending on snow conditions, you can start from the hamlet of Cavaione or a little further on a hairpin bend. The first part of the route follows an easy forest road through the dal Saent valley, between larch trees. The panorama from the summit of Pizzo Cancan is sheer over the middle Valtellina.

Description

When you put on your skis, take the forest road that starts right from the hairpin bend and enters the main valley. After a long stretch along the hillside, the forest road enters the wood, keeping at altitude on the left-hand side of the Vallone dal Saent; you pass the cottages of Pescia Bassa and Pescia Alta (Rifugio Anzana), the latter located towards the end of the wood. Now turn left and exit the forest onto open fields. Without an obligatory route, climb up easy slopes and with a long diagonal stretch you will reach the Anzana pass to the north-west of the peak; from here, with skis on your feet, you will reach the peak itself located to the left of the pass.
