Cross of Fana, from Fonteil

Introduction

Little-known winter route with a splendid panorama over the city of Aosta. The eastern exposure and the route completely in the middle of the forest keep the powder snow for a long time, even in very windy conditions.

Description

Pass through the middle of the houses and follow the cross-country road, after about a hundred metres continue on the left branch of the road which climbs up through the trees. Follow it for about 30 - 40 minutes, before some mountain huts start to climb up on the left, go past a section with some trees and cross a beautiful clearing. At the end you will find the cross-country road again, follow it to the left with a long flat section, where the wood becomes less steep you go up the wide rib to the right. Follow it keeping to the right side, always among the trees. Where the slope becomes steeper, cross to the right and then climb up to the last ridge that leads to the Fana cross. Often continue on the wide ridge to the right for a hundred metres and then descend to the cross.
