Description

First day Our tour will be done clockwise, and over two days, to enjoy the sunrise and sunset on the Three Peaks. From the Auronzo Refuge (2330m), cross slightly downhill until you come to a bend in a clear path that continues in a westerly direction. The path is almost flat, and with slight ups and downs, leads us to the Forcella di Mezzo (2315m). There is only one section equipped with a chain about ten metres long, which can be slippery if the rocks are wet. We found fog, from which the Cadini di Misurina peeped out at times. Once we reached the pass, we descended behind the Three Peaks, first crossing the scree, and then continued through small valleys, with continuous ups and downs until we reached the small lakes in which, if it hadn't been for the fog we encountered, we would have seen the Three Peaks reflected in the water... While we're trying to photograph some grazing cows, it's drizzling, but suddenly the north faces of the Ovest and Grande appear above us...A moment, and then everything closes in; we continue up and down but still losing height, reaching Pian da Rin, 2200 metres, kingdom of marmots.... At this point, in order to reach Rifugio Locatelli, it is necessary to climb steeply for 250 metres in height difference, along a beautiful path; behind us are the Tre Cime, all around a blaze of mountains, and along the path, flowers (3 hours from Rif Auronzo) In reality, the route could be done in less time, but considering the grandiose environment in which it takes place, we look around a lot, apart from the fog.... Second day After staying overnight at the fog-shrouded, and very quiet Locatelli (despite the 200 or so people it accommodated, not even a snore could be heard.;-) we got up with a spacey day: at 6.30 a.m. the sun rose from the Fischlein valley and began to touch the tip of the Tre ime, and the mountains further away, such as the Croda Rossa; behind the hut, the small lakes had a violet-pink colour, and beyond, over the valley, a sea of clouds... We spread out to take pictures galore, while those who have stayed overnight to climb the various via ferratas in the area hurry off to breakfast. Satisfied with the splendid photos, we also have breakfast and then prepare to complete our tour. We decide on the lower route, descend a little below Locatelli and take the very wide path to the Forcella Lavaredo (2354m). As we ascend, we pass below Monte Paterno; in front of us the north face with a few climbing roped parties... Reaching the pass in an hour or so, the northerly is still clear, but fog is rising from the south. One last glance at the Rifugio Locatelli, and then we descended to the Lavaredo Refuge, passing dozens of people doing the same route in the opposite direction; from the Lavaredo Refuge the road is very wide, leading first to a small church, and then to the Auronzo Refuge, while in front of us we have the Cadini di Misurina and at the bottom of the valley the turquoise of Lake Auronzo. An extremely easy and very beautiful excursion.
