Tour des Col du Grand Saint-Bernard
Introduction
A pleasant excursion, never monotonous, for good walkers. The panorama is rare and enchanting. We cross 3 hills to complete the loop, which is unique in its beauty.
Description
Starting from the Baou mountain pasture (2356m), follow the path (13a) to the Fenêtre de Ferret (2698m) and then descend from the pass along an obvious path towards the 3 lakes, as far as the cross on the shore of the largest lake. From here, take a right (on an old landslide you can see the recently resurfaced path) to climb up towards Col Bastillon (2757m): towards the summit a comfortable but exposed passage. From here a view that has no equal!!! When you reach the pass, on which a small fort is clearly visible high up on the left, you can either cut along the ridge (not recommended with early season snowfields) or descend back into the valley and climb to Pas des Chevaux (2714m). Now descend towards the Great St. Bernard with an easy path that leads about 500m to the border on the Swiss side. Author
