Rifugio Laghi Colbricon, from Passo Rolle
Introduction
Beautiful and easy hike through the fascinating Paneveggio forest protected by the Paneveggio Pale di San Martino Nature Park. When you reach the refuge, you can appreciate the enchanting tranquillity of the Colbricon lakes: obviously not during peak tourist periods!
Description
Leaving the car behind, we cross the SS50 Passo Rolle road and set off, following the signs for the refuge, along a slightly downhill dirt track which in a few minutes leads to Busa Ferrari, the starting point of the Tognazza ski lifts. When you reach the clearing, turn right and follow the path past a small wooden bridge into the wood. We enter the dense spruce forest (Abies picea) on a very slight incline, always walking in the cool thanks to the substantial shade. Along the way, we cross several streams on wide wooden footbridges. After meeting the park signs, the path climbs up a short paved section and then levels out again when the hut comes into view. A few more minutes and you will finally reach the Rifugio Laghi Colbricon (1927m, 0h45') located near the two pretty lakes of the same name.
The return journey is along the same route as the outward journey (0h30').
In the vicinity of the lakes, and in other surrounding areas, evidence of Mesolithic hunter settlements (8.000-5,000 B.C.), attracted to these places by the richness of the fauna: flints, spear points, arrows and records of their camps have been brought to light during excavation campaigns.
