Rifugio Ferioli, from Rima
Introduction
The Rifugio Ferioli is a beautiful stone building located just below the Colle Mud, on the slopes of the north face of Monte Tagliaferro. The refuge is owned by the CAI of Olgiate Olona and is managed directly by the same section.
Description
We follow the asphalt road uphill for a short distance until we come to the signpost at its end. Follow the path over a small wooden bridge and follow the track to the right that runs alongside the Mud stream. You quickly gain height by following a very stepped path through a beautiful beech forest to reach the top of a narrow gorge. Once you reach the ruins of Alpe Z'ise hus at an altitude of 1627m, leave the alpine pastureland on the right and, following the track halfway up the mountainside, reach a steep but short grassy valley at the top of which are the huts of Alpe Mud di qua (1887m): four huts make up this alpine pastureland that is just over a hundred metres from Alpe Mud di là, located to the west of the route. Continuing to the right (signposted on the wall of the alpine pasture) along the path leading to the hut and after passing through a section where there are only tracks on a grassy slope strewn with boulders, you reach the clearly visible Alpe Venghy (2042m). From here, looking up to the left, you can see your destination now close by, and after a few hairpin bends, you come to a crossroads with signs for the hut and the Colle Mud: take the track to the right (signpost [8A]) and you will soon reach the Alpe Oubre Alpu buildings, or the Ferioli hut. From the hut, it takes about fifteen minutes to reach the Mud pass (2324m), which connects Alagna with Rima. From here, you can enjoy the panorama of Alagna with Corno Bianco above and the Olen valley, and you can also see the nearby north ridge of Monte Tagliaferro. For the return journey, you can descend directly from the pass to the crossroads or return to the hut and descend from the uphill route.
