Description

Parking in the vicinity of the 1915-18 War Museum The path starts from there and then goes around the mountain and climbs in steep zig-zags until it reaches several equipped sections and a beautiful 15-metre-long suspension bridge. We start to climb again with other simple equipped sections until we reach the summit of Lagazuoi (2762m) where there is an exceptional panorama of all the surrounding groups: Tofane, Marmolada, Sella, Altopiano Pues-Odle to name but a few. We then descend to Rif Valparola (2752m) and the arrival station of the cable car from Passo Falzarego where we follow the signs for the Lagazuoi Tunnels. For the galleries a helmet can be useful but not indispensable except for children; if small, a harness is recommended as there are several points with slippery stones. A torch per person is highly recommended, however, as there are long stretches in the tunnels without natural light (and no, there is no electric light!). Also worth visiting is the Cengia Martini, which was fiercely defended by the Italian army. The descent is via path 402 and, just before reaching the Falzarego Pass, there is a signpost on the right that leads back to the Kaiserjaeger Steig and then to the car park. This hike is not particularly long (about ten kilometres), but given the beauty of the panorama on the ascent and the historical interest of the tunnels, it certainly requires at least half a day (5 hours)
