Obstansersee Hut

Description

Leaving the Sillianer Hütte, path goes around the Hornischeck (Arnese Mountain) and the Hollbrucker Spitze (Pontegrotta Peak), which can be crossed. You reach the Hochgräten Joch where the 1915-17 Austro-Hungarian cemetery and the lake are located. Now begins the most strenuous part of the route with the ascents to the Demut (La Mutta) and the Schöntalhöhe (Cima di Valbella). Finally the Eisenreich (Iron Mountain). The descent is along a stony path, perhaps a spring torrent bed, which makes the walk difficult. I think it would be easier to take a right to the Obstanser Sattel (Forc. Pala degli Orti 2453 m.) and descend to the hut along path no. 5/A, which passes near the Austrian cemetery Schimmelkirche and reaches the hut, an easy and very scenic path. There are many small snowfields on the trail, even in late summer.
