From the arrival of the cable car (1345 m), descend briefly along the road onto the large plateau where several wooden posts and signs indicate the various routes.
Take path no. 7A, which crosses the plateau and climbs gently in a north-easterly direction, entering the forest. It takes about half an hour to reach the Passo del Giuf (1523 m) and, taking the path in a southerly direction, you almost immediately arrive at the post indicating path no. 582, or "Sentiero delle Creste". Here, the Azzoni refuge is signposted three hours away.
You then start to walk along the north ridge of the Resegone, initially up a steep section through grass and some small rocks. You touch Pizzo Morterone (1747 m) and from here the ridge takes an up and down course between small rocks and grassy stretches. You reach Pan di Zucchero (1754 m) from which you descend to climb up to Cima Pozzi (1810 m). We descend again to the saddle of the Bobbio gully and then immediately climb up alongside Punta Manzoni (1810 m) and Punta Stoppani (1849). After a long and exposed descent, you reach the saddle of Canalone Comera. You finally climb to Punta Cermenati (1875 m), the highest peak on the Resegone, and to the Azzoni refuge below (1860 m). Walking time: h 1:30' from the Giuf pass, 2 hours from the Piani d'Erna.
After a much-needed stop at the Punta Cermenati cross to admire the marvellous panorama, with recognition of the peaks aided by the memorial stone housing the compass rose, you descend to the Azzoni refuge, near which a sign indicates the continuation of the Sentiero delle Creste (path no. 571, Cresta Sud) to the Passata, indicated time: 3 hours.
Follow the red and white markings and, again with alternating ups and downs, go along the Torre di Val Negra (1852 m), Pizzo Daina (1864 m), then lose almost a hundred metres in altitude and arrive at Pizzo Brumano (1756), go down another hundred metres and at the saddle you will find a path on the right that descends to the Alpinisti Monzesi hut. Instead, we continue along I Solitari (1667 m) and, in a truly unique environment of grass and limestone, descend and then immediately ascend to Punta Quarenghi (1636 m), on the summit of which a memorial stone houses a bronze medallion in memory of Giacomo Quarenghi. From this point, the path descends very steeply over an exposed meadow. Pay close attention to the trail markers so as not to lose the path because numerous tracks on the way mislead.
At the end of the tortuous path, you enter a wood and finally reach the Passata, altitude 1244, from where several paths branch off both on the Lecco and Imagna Valleys. Walking time from the Azzoni refuge: 3 hours.
Now a nice level path through the woods (no. 575) turns north towards the Alpinisti Monzesi hut (1171 m), which is reached in about half an hour, and from there in 20 minutes you climb to an altitude of 1290 to Passo di Fo, where the Baita Daino is located.
You can, at this point, take either path no. 5 or path no. 7, both of which lead to the Piani d'Erna at the cable car station.
Total time without stops: 7:30 hours.
