Monte Massone, from Alpe Quaggiona

Introduction

Beautiful excursion with an exciting ride along the ridge, over open and airy spaces, with some ups and downs but always on an evident and marked path. Good training is necessary to fully enjoy the excursion, which has considerable development, and offers spectacular views of the Ossola Valley, the lakes and plains, and the Pennine Alps.

Description

From Alpe Quaggione, the itinerary is immediately evident: with an ascending traverse to the right, you reach a nearby col that is already on the ridge and climb the steep south ridge that leads to the summit of Poggio Croce, after passing an anticima (Monte Cerano). Descend to the Bocchetta di Bagnone and climb the opposite ridge initially with a steep ramp (known as the Barahept) to the Bocchetta del Massone. Keeping now slightly on the south side, passing under the Eyehorn peak, you easily reach the summit.
On the descent, having reached Bocchetta di Bagnone, to avoid the subsequent ascent to Poggio Croce, it is possible to descend to the south passing by Alpe Morello and the Franchini cottages, and then go back up to the starting col.
