Twin Lakes, from the Mezzeno huts

Access

From Roncobello in the Brembana Valley, continue by car to Capovalle, where the asphalt road ends. From there, four kilometres of jeppable road begins, leading to the Mezzeno huts, the starting point of the hike.

Introduction

At the gates of Lombardy's capital city lies a tangle of wooded valleys well suited for hiking. Among other wonders, the Orobie are home to the twin lakes. The simple trail starts at the Mezzeno huts. 

Description

From the square where you park, located near the Mezzeno huts, take the path marked and climb to the hydrographic right along a path through the woods; after the end of the woods, the path leading to the "Tre Pizzi" branches off to the left. Continuing to the right, you reach a rocky spur, which is a prelude to a hut. After an uphill stretch, a level meadow is reached. Past the ruins of a hut, climb up the ridge to the left and begin the ascent towards the cross in the middle of the saddle (Mezzeno pass - 2142m). On the other side, two hundred metres further down, the Laghi Gemelli (Twin Lakes) can be seen. After an initial downhill section, we join the famous Sentiero delle Orobie, with marker number 216. Following the lake for its entire length, on a mainly level path, you arrive at the dam and then at the Laghi Gemelli hut (1968m), open only in the summer season. From the hut, it is possible to climb to Pizzo Farno (2506m) or to Lago Colombo (2046m).
