Doss del Sabbion, from Prà Rodont
Introduction
Beautiful panoramic hike at the foot of the Brenta Dolomites: the route, mostly downhill, allows maximum results with minimum effort!
Description
Take the gondola to Prà Rodont and then the four-seater chairlift to the station located at an altitude of 2000 m from here you descend in the direction of the track that goes to Grual with the Brenta massif in front of you.
When you get near a bend you take the path on the right (unmarked) and start the descent to a plateau that will take you to the Madonnina. The descent is very steep and the path is stony until you reach the plateau, where an easy path awaits you, winding its way through a variety of low-lying alpine vegetation.
After about 40 minutes you reach a small plain where there is a small stone chapel with a pylon on the outside on which a bell is mounted, and inside there is a Madonnina and a small altar where services are celebrated on certain occasions.
From this plain start the paths to reach the refuge of the XII Apostles and the Valagola Lake.
We continue towards the Bregn da l'Ors malga on a comfortable dirt road that in some points, due to its steepness, turns into concrete.
After about 30 minutes we arrive at the malga where we meet the famous Rendena cows grazing. From here we continue towards a path on the right which takes us to Prà Rodont. The path winds along the ridge of the mountain and with a slight slope we enter a wood in which the path for the most part winds its way.
After about 50 minutes you arrive at Prà Rodont, where you can help yourself to the packed breakfast you have brought with you, but... the smells coming from the self-service hut are too tempting and so you have to queue up to get your portion of polenta (kept warm under a tea towel and a woollen blanket), mushrooms and a mixed portion of cheese; all accompanied by a glass of Trentino red wine.
To do no harm to our basket that we carried around all day, we ate the fruit.
As soon as we had finished eating and planned to take a deckchair (which by the way was given free of charge) to relax for a moment, the Fantozzian cloud at 15:30 peeped out of the mountain and began to release those dull, damp drops. We therefore headed to the refuge bar to have a coffee, and since the weather didn't think anything of getting better we took the cable car back to Pinzolo.
