Camino Francés de Santiago from Melide to Arzúa
Introduction
The devotional route has several possibilities and the so-called 'French' route starts in the Pyrenees. In the summer of 2022, the last six stages were covered, arriving in Santiago... below is a summary description of the fourth one.
Description
At Melide you see the church of San Pedro and the do Carme chapel with a view of the village you are about to leave. The weather is cloudy (although the weather forecast actually rules out rain).
Past the sacred building dedicated to Santa Maria there are more green tunnels. The arrival is about 50 km away, but the one that fixes it exactly to the metre is missing. One fords the Catasol stream, over a series of boulders prepared for the purpose. One briefly skirts the carriageway, but pieces in the forest prevail. From the village of Boente, we cross the N 547 (source) by the small church of Santiago, dedicated to the victims of Covid-19. Particularly fragrant are the eucalyptus forests, which are very common in the area. In the distance, there are several clusters of houses that the devotional route ignores. After the sign announcing O Rio, there is a picnic area where one can take a break, using the supplies in tow for a snack. The state road is crossed, thanks to an elevated footbridge. You enter the hamlet of Ribadiso, with yet another medieval bridge. It is a very beautiful place and, afterwards, there is Arzúa. From hotel to hotel: 14.5 km, about 5h walk + 1h15 breaks, 2.9 km/h, 135 m asl.Pdf file with many shots:
