Camino Francés de Santiago from Arzúa to O'Pino
Introduction
The devotional route has several possibilities and the so-called 'French' route starts in the Pyrenees. In the summer of 2022, the last six stages were covered, arriving in Santiago... below is a summary description of the fifth.
Description
Having passed the Capela da Madalena (14th century), we leave the village of Arzúa and see another spring. This morning, too, there are clouds, but nothing to worry about... The forest becomes dense with stems of considerable size. An overpass crosses the A 54 motorway. We enter the town of Calzada and then plunge, once again, into the forest. As always, inhabited areas alternate with wild or almost wild areas. A constant on the route is the presence of horreos, which are numerous to say the least. Fortunately, the trees follow one another, providing pleasant coolness. After the stop, the Chapel of St Irene (almost 400 years old) is touched! An arrow makes a right turn to O Pino, the end of the fifth stage. From hotel to hotel: 18.1 km, about 6h walk + 1h45 break, 3 km/h, 200 m asl.
