Molise
Introduction
Located in central-southern Italy, between the Apennine ridge and the Adriatic Sea, Molise is a region rich in nature, history, art, traditions and gastronomy that is still little known. The territory, mainly mountainous and hilly, is crossed by the 'tratturi', ancient transhumance routes. The Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park offers magnificent landscapes and nature reserves that protect the local fauna and flora. Molise also boasts ski resorts such as Campitello Matese and Capracotta, as well as a coastline with sandy beaches and a clear sea, awarded the Blue Flag. The region is a 'small ancient world' where millennial history is revealed through archaeological sites, abbeys, villages and castles, and where traditions, crafts and ancient trades survive.
Description
Located in central-southern Italy, 1Iolise stretches between the Apennine ridge and the Adriatic Sea. Nature, history, art, ancient traditions and gastronomy are the treasures of this still little-known land. Visiting Molise gives one a feeling of 'discovery', starting with its predominantly mountainous and hilly terrain, furrowed by the characteristic 'tratturi', the historic transhumance routes that link the pastures of Abruzzo with those of Puglia. The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise reveals unexpectedly magnificent landscapes, while the numerous nature reserves protect the plant and animal species typical of this area. Scenes of unspoilt nature also frame the two most important ski resorts in the region: Campitello Matese and Capracotta. The coastline features sandy beaches surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and a clear, clean sea, which was awarded the Blue Flag this year as well. The millennial history and culture of the region can be discovered by visiting the archaeological sites, abbeys, villages and numerous castles in the area. The survival of customs and traditions, crafts and ancient trades that have disappeared elsewhere is a unique feature that makes Molise a 'little old world'.
