Introduction

The Alessandro Pansa Bivouac, located in the municipality of Sarre, represents an intimate and functional high mountain bivouac, dedicated to the memory of economist and manager Alessandro Pansa, who passed away in 2017. Inaugurated in June 2023, it is positioned near the summit of Mont Fallère, one of the most iconic mountains in the mid-Aosta Valley. It is about 150 metres from the summit, offering a perfect foothold for hikers and mountaineers looking for a place to rest before or after reaching the summit.

Description

The bivouac is distinguished by its wood and sheet metal structure, which sleeps four, and a large panoramic window that offers a breathtaking view of the valley below and the majestic surrounding Alps. This strategic location offers a 360-degree view of the Aosta Valley and Swiss mountains, making the bivouac one of the most scenic in the region. The path leading to the bivouac starts from the hamlet of Thouraz in Sarre and crosses various alpine environments, from the pastures of the lower valley to the typical high altitude stony ground, passing also by the picturesque Fallère Lake. The hike, which has a significant difference in altitude, is recommended for well-trained hikers. The gradients vary along the route, with gentler stretches alternating with steeper ones, especially after the lake.
The bivouac was realised thanks to the contribution of Raffaele Vitale, a long-standing friend of Pansa, with the logistical support of the mountain guide Thomas Scalise Meynet and the collaboration of the municipality of Sarre, which faced several administrative and logistical challenges to complete the project.
This bivouac not only represents a landmark for mountain lovers, but also embodies the spirit of Alessandro Pansa, who found the Aosta Valley his heartland.

Alessandro Pansa

(22 June 1962 - Rome, 11 November 2017),

Deceased prematurely at the age of 55, he was a renowned Roman business executive and economist, as well as a great lover of the mountains of the Aosta Valley. In his honour, it was decided to dedicate a high altitude bivouac to him, which today stands a few hundred metres from the summit of Mont Fallère, in the commune of Sarre.
