Castle's Trail: 23 km of excitement between the Castles of Verrès and Challand

Castle's Trail: 23 km of emotions between the Castles of Verrès and Challand

The new race will take place on 11 March and will open the Tour Trail VdA 2017

The Tour Trail of the Aosta Valley will open with an unprecedented trial. The 2017 circuit comprising seven events will in fact be inaugurated with Castle's Trail, another great novelty that was presented to the press yesterday (Wednesday). Even the date of the event will be completely new to the loyal competitors of the TTVDA. The Verrès trial will take place on 11 March, three months before the now classic Licony Trail in Morgex.

An early start to the season for trailers who still have just over a month to warm up their muscles and refine their preparation. It is an early start, but they are also running respectable distances, ideal for the month of March and the first competitions. The complete route will be laid out the week before, while the first signposts have already been placed.

The route, designed by Vittorio Varisellaz, Federico Tadiello, Alessandro Giovenzi and Dennis Brunod, measures 23 kilometres and has a positive height difference of 1,530 metres, with an equal 1,500 metres in the negative. Nothing difficult, nothing impossible, also because it is run at decidedly low altitudes. The start in Verrès is at 391 metres, the highest point will not break through the 1,000 metre mark. In fact, it will reach the 970 metres of Belvedere, where the descent towards the beautiful Lake Villa will then begin. Even the panorama wants its share. Immediately after the start, you will skirt the Castle of Verrès, a medieval fortress built on a rocky peak by Ibleto di Challant. A very beautiful castle, surrounded by paths and tracks that will be ploughed by the trailers. During the race, the competitors will be able to enjoy many other views, as well as passing near the castle of Villa-Challand.

The first edition of the Castle's Trail is organised by the municipality of Verrès, with the intention of enhancing the fortress, one of the first to be seen when entering Valle d'Aosta. The event will also involve the administrations of Challand-Saint-Victor and Montjovet, municipalities touched by the passage of the race.

The start will be at 9 a.m. from Via Duca D'Aosta, with the arrival of the first competitors expected around 11.30 a.m. There will also be plenty of space for children. At 2.30 p.m. the Baby Trail is scheduled, a moment of fun and entertainment for the little ones that will also involve schools. Registration is open on the Wedosport website and will close on 9 March. Until the first of March, it costs 20€ to register, while afterwards and up to two days before the event the fee will be raised to 25€.

"We wanted to organise this event to enhance the Castle of Verrès and put it on display, and we also want to exploit a whole series of disused paths that are little known to trail lovers," says the mayor, Alessandro Giovenzi. "It is a new challenge, a new race that we wanted to place at the beginning of March, a period where the calendar is still free and where there is not too much overlapping. For this reason, the course is not very difficult, plus it is run at very low altitudes. It is year zero and we want to have a good event right away, at the moment we have about fifty entrants, but there is still a long way to go. One thing is certain: we don't want this to be the only edition, we are working to make it the start of a long journey. It is important for us to be part of the Tour Trail Valle d'Aosta".
